The Upper Truckee, 60 x 90,” Oil Painting
The series of landscapes are from specific locations. The pastel drawings and oil paintings may be a thorough exploration of a small area or a grand vista. As many as twenty works can emerge from an area no larger than a few hundred feet but an interesting site can also be the subject of a single drawing.
The idea of immersing the viewer in a landscape and experiencing a site from many different points of view is a concept carried through many of the landscape series.
A single drawing can also contain more information than can be absorbed in a single glance. By controlling the perspective, the viewer can sometimes be wrapped in the scene and allowed to look down, in and up at a location. The 60 x 90″ oil painting above is an example of this methodology. Because of its large size this movement through the work is particularly apparent in person but the same can be said about some of the smaller works as well.
The Gallery Slide Shows are composed of work produced during my 50-year career. There are several slide shows of work divided by subject matter or location.
